Its deep combat system, haunting atmosphere, and expansive world turned it into one of the best modern Metroidvanias. The game’s success on PlayStation consoles helped reinforce the idea that indie games could compete toe-to-toe with major titles in terms of quality and depth. Although the PSP existed before the indie boom we see today, it still offered glimpses of what was to come. Titles like Every Extend Extra and LocoRoco were creative, experimental, and unconventional—precursors to the indie wave that would later flood PlayStation platforms. These early gems hinted at the artistic freedom that would later define the indie scene on PlayStation.
